Stanserhorn
Introduction
Situated in Central Switzerland, Mount Stanserhorn, at 6300 ft, is also called Five Star Mountain for a good reason. An extra star belongs to the Rondorama, built in 2001, which is perfectly situated offering the most beautiful view of the Alps and the surrounding areas. On the top, the view stretches onto a chain of more than 100 kilometers of alpine panorama, 10 Swiss lakes and all the way to the Black Forest in Germany.
Getting There
You have to take the train in Luzern in direction to Stans. After 19 minutes you will arrive in Stans. There you have to travel by funicular (first section) and aerial cable (second section) to the Stanserhorn which takes about 25 minutes.
Attractions
Revolving Restaurant Rondorama:
The glorious views of Eiger, Moench and Jungfrau, ten lakes and 100km of alpine vistas, not to speak of the fresh alpine air and the delicious food - you will want to come back here again and again. And as of April 2001, the "Five Star Mountain" has also updated its image, with its modern but cozy revolving restaurant Rondorama. It rotates once every 43 minutes, inviting you to the panoramic views this place has to offer. The wrap-around terraces are also star-shaped and with their gentle steps allow for maximum views of surrounding areas.
Circular Trail:
Ride the nostalgic funicular and the modern aerial cable car up to the Stanserhorn and find yourself in middle of a sea of alpine flowers growing on the surrounding meadows.
Marmot Park:
They are especially proud of their marmots-in-residence. Here you can observe marmots in their natural environment and watch them play and go about their daily activities. Old and young will love these cute little animals. They do not mind visitors but if people get too close to their home, they stand up and after a brief shrill warning whistle, disappear in their burrows.
Hiking:
Hiking in this region is becoming more and more popular, probably not least due to the improved hiking trails. The trails have not only been shored up and the indications spruced up, there is also all kind of other information to be gleaned from the signs along the way, such as data on the flora and fauna of the region and the geological formations. The hikes are ideal for families, groups, individuals, or schools – you get away from it all on the hiking trails.
