To come to Mount Pilatus, the Dragon Mountain you must first arrive in Lucerne (one hour train ride from Zurich), the train station is situated on the scenic lake Lucerne. Take the world's steepest cogwheel railway (48° Gradient) from Alpnachstad to the top of Mount Pilatus. It is a 30 minute journey through amazing alpine landscapes to the peak. (Alpnachstad is 20 minutes by train from Lucerne) How to come down? By thrilling rides on aerial cableway and panorama gondolas, arriving at Kriens, a nearby suburb of Lucerne. There you take the bus back to Lucerne. Alternatively you could travel from Kriens up to Mount Pilatus by panorama gondolas and aerial cableway and come down to Alpnachstad by the world's steepest cogwheel railway. Another suggestion, if you have the luxury of time, make a cruise by nostalgic lake steamer on Lake Lucerne from Lucerne city to Alpnachstad (90 minutes, lake cruise operating between May and October), before going up to Mount Pilatus.
