Bernina Express
Travel from ice-age glaciers to palm trees on the Bernina Express in just 2½ hours. On the Rhaetian Railway’s north-south Alpine crossing, pass wild gorges, soaring bridges, fascinating loop tunnels and white glaciers close enough to reach out and touch. From Tirano, you’ll board modern buses and travel through the Italian Valtelina Valley to Lugano.
The Bernina Express runs daily in the summer. In the winter, only the train to and from Tirano is operated. It offers first and second class service as well as panoramic coaches.
The Rhaetian Railway's north-south Alpine crossing offers breathtaking views as you travel over boldly curved viaducts, through winding tunnels and past ice-age glaciers. The journey can also be extended to Lugano and Tirano (Italy) by bus in summertime. (be sure you have valid entry documents for Italy since you will leave and re-enter Switzerland)
